 College of Arts & Social Sciences Strategic Doctoral Scholarships

The College of Arts and Social Sciences is pleased to announce the availability of PhD scholarships in the following area, for students commencing study in September 2009:

    * Sociology

These scholarships are valued at £15,000 each (to cover fees and, with the remaining balance, maintenance) for three years.

The closing date for applications is Friday 26th June 2009.

General enquiries about these scholarships may be made to the Graduate School at cass-graduateschool @abdn.ac. uk.

Eligibility
All College awards are open to UK/EU Students and International Students.
All applicants will be expected to start in September 2009.

For PhD study, we would normally expect that applicants hold a first class or an upper second class Honours Degree plus a relevant Masters Degree. Qualifications that have been attained from outside the UK will need to be equated to the UK Honours degree standard.

The College Selection Panel reserves the right to deal as it thinks fit with applications of an unusual character.

Current University of Aberdeen employees are not eligible to apply for studentship awards.

No award may be considered as definite until the College has sent the candidate formal confirmation of the offer and it has been signed and returned by the student.

Application Process
A complete College Strategic Doctoral Scholarship application form and supporting documents should be submitted to the Graduate School for the College of Arts and Social Sciences. A completed application should include the following:

    * A completed application form
    * At least one academic reference (in a sealed envelope) supporting your award application. The College will accept a maximum of two references.
    * A copy of an academic transcript
    * A research proposal (maximum 2000 words)
    * No additional documents to those requested are necessary. Extra documents will not be considered.

Applications will not be considered further if any of the above are missing.
